NGO Activities : Indian Buildings Congress is a national level interdisciplinary NGO which has made a dent on the emerging issues of Built Environment during the short period of 15 years. IBC has about 80 Institutional and 3000 individual members. IBC has played a major role in the various facets of Built Environment, through- i) National level discussions deliberations and dialogues by holding conventions & National Seminars on technical topics. ii) Professional Groups working on specific issues. iii) Net working and collaboration with Govt. Local bodies NGOs and Industry. iv) Dissemination of knowledge through publications. v) Promoting excellence in the field of Built Environment by giving awards for best Paper presented in Seminar and Entries received on technical projects of National importance. IBC identifies subjects of national importance and constitutes Technical Committees which bring out State of the Art Reports and Manuals. It has already brought out following reports manuals – (a) Reports – i) Model Agreement to sell a flat between Seller and Purchaser. ii) Urban Infrastructure Development in India An Overview iii) Alternative Models for Land Use Planning. iv) Finance for Building industry. v) Habitat Vision 2020. vi) Rural Housing Policy vii) Housing Policy viii) Standardization of Doors & Windows ix) Preventive Maintenance Manual for Buildings (b) Manuals Handbooks – i) Retrofitting of Buildings ii) Energy Conservation in Buildings. (c) i) Journals on Technical Papers presented in Seminars ii) IBC News published quarterly iii) Monthly IBC Samachar For enhancing knowledge of the construction technicians and workmen IBC is keen to set up Workmen Training Institutes in UP Rajasthan and Maharashtra and efforts are on towards this objective. This is expected to be some contribution in National Skill Mission Co entrepreneurs are welcome. In IBC calendar for 2009-10 IBC has chosen deliberations on Low Cost Housing in a Seminar being organized at Hyderabad in Mid Dec 09. Exhibitors are Welcome.
