ACTIVITIES

NGO Activities : IIEC, a social voluntary organization, for your kind information, has been relentlessly pursuing various empowerment and development programmes for the poor, marginalized and vulnerable in different parts of Orissa and Chhatisgarh since its inception in 1996. Its interventions in priority sectors such as education, health, disability, micro-finance, and disaster management, rural development programmes like NREGS, tribal development, agriculture, ICT and Urban Governance /slum development have invariably created innovative models with inbuilt participatory approach and mechanism IIEC is presently implementing programmes with a mission mode in 7 districts of Orissa with its Head office at Bhubaneswar. Besides all these development interventions, the issue of disability has always remained our topmost priority. The activities in the said sector range from identification and assessment to early intervention, inclusive-pre school, community and institution based therapy services, home based interventions, remedial teaching, inclusive classroom teaching, provision of appropriate aids and appliances, pre-vocational education & training, inclusive sports and athletics, technical & technological interventions through Resource Centres and skill development training and rehabilitation and SHGs for adult disabled. OUTPUT IN disABILITY SECTOR Around 2000 children mainstreamed in general educational system in Nayagarh and Ganjam districts of Orisssa. 500 persons with disabilities trained in different vocations and established as productive citizens in society. Mobility of around 2000 persons and children with disability enhanced by aids and appliances. Structural barriers at around 200 educational institutions replaced and modified by disabled friendly structure. 6 Resource Centres established in Nayagarh district. Model activity for Tribal development Similarly our intervention in tribal communities of Orissa has also established itself as a model in the sense that for the first time in India these tribal communities again in Daspalla block have successfully proved their ability in building and maintaining community and labour based infrastructure in their locality. They have established a revolving fund to sustain and maintain rural infrastructure created by them. A Common Facility Center (CFC) has been built having provision for information services, agricultural services, Intermediate Means of Transport (IMT) (cycle etc.) repairing shop, fair price shop and store house for minor forest produces. A ‘Community Mnaged Transport’ (Bus) has been launched for the tribal communities which is owned and managed by them only. These tribal communities have been rigorously trained and empowered by our organization through different training and capacity building programmes (Assets Management Training). Our organization is working as facilitator and the whole assets created in the tribal communities belong to them only. This process has successfully mainstream more than 30 thousand tribals in a remote pocket of Daspalla under Nayagarh district.
