ACTIVITIES

NGO Activities : The main focus of CYSD is Primary Education, Sustainable Livelihood and Participatory Governance. Its other program include disaster management, child rights, health, sanitation and HIV AIDS. CYSD works at both the grassroots level directly with community and through NGO partners which makes our development model unique. In addition CYSD has included a new dimension to its poverty alleviation approach by doing research and advocacy at block, district and national levels. Supported sustainable agriculture by tribal farmers small and marginal in 17681.85 acres in Sundergarh Keonjhar Mayurbhanj and Koraput district extended strategic capacity support on sustainable agriculture to 40 NGOs to work with 58592 farmers in 15 Districts. Built capacities of 136 NGOs, 1868 CBOs and 758 Independent volunteers on using right to information RTI conducting social audit and ensuring public accountability leading to taking up of 4997 cases in 30 districts. Conducted successful pilots on social audits in MGNREGA program in 06 Blocks in 03 districts. Conducting access to work campaign in 71 blocks in 15 districts leading to demand and access of work by 88876rural workers. Developed 2242 women entrepreneurs with market-competitive. Built capacities of PRI leaders 4922 women 23922 men from 3129 GPs, Panchayat Samiti ZPs on micro level planning MLP and gender sensitive implementation of development programmes. Significant women leadership in local planning and community development in 4240 villages in 994 GPs in 15 districts through direct interventions and in partnership with 136 NGOs has led not only women’s inclusion but also SC and ST households in socio economic development. 204 solidarity groups formed 80 Male and 124 Females in the community. 175 solidarity groups formed 65 Boys and 110 Girls in the community. Imparted training to solidarity group members on Life Skill Education, SRH issues. To bring more clarity on sex and sexuality and related issues various reading materials developed in oriya language on Sex & Sexuality, Stigma and Discrimination, Frequently Asked Questions, Glossary on Sexual Reproductive Health. Two umber of Flip Book developed for the adolescents facilitators one in desia language exclusively for the solidarity group members of Koraput district. The experimentation to enhance the quality of primary education has been underway in 10 tribal schools. A quality monitoring tool quality index has been developed for use by community and other stakeholders. Series of contex sensitive teaching learning materials including primers in Sundargarhi, Munda and Santhali languages have been made available. Village Education Plans have been developed in a sizeable number of village. Efforts are made to create access to school by running 37 center. Enrollment of 92 percent of out of school children development of a comprehensive capacity building package developed for teachers and Village Education Committees. Developed strong peer groups that play a positive role in monitoring school hygiene, sanitation, environment and overall management and promoting enrolment and retention. At the state level, an Education Watch Group has been set up to work on issues related to access, gender disparity, education administration, class room transactions and children learning and create citizen pressure on government to provide adequate resources for education.
