NGO Activities : In the last three years CISSA has organized various national seminars and workshops in the chosen focal areas and initiated massive public movements in favour of traditional food & health practices and clean technologies. Ayurveda and public health has a prominent place in CISSA’s activities. Some of the major activities in these areas are Annam Good Food Movement was launched in India in 2008 as a joint initiative of the CISSA, Navdanya, India and the Slow Food Movement (Italy). It is an effort to popularize the concepts of food and health in our traditional health systems, to make the people aware of the linkage between good food, local agro-biodiversity and health, fight for food security and food sovereignty in the era of globalisalion where corporates are in the pursuit to monopolize food and agriculture. This has become a landmark event in India in terms of participation of government departments, public and private organizations, public support, and follow-up activities envisaged. When the Kerala state was reeling under Chikungunya epidemic,CISSA organized workshop on Ayurvedic approach towards its management. Physicians from Chikungunya affected areas and renowned academicians participated. Role of Ayurveda in public health activities aimed at controlling mosquito born epidemics were also discussed. This workshop helped the Ayurvedic community to confidently proclaim that even simple Ayurvedic techniques are effective in treating Chikungunya especially the arthritis associated with it, when public health authorities were solely depending on Allopathic system of medicine. The workshop on diagnostic imaging and ECG provided an excellent opportunity to have insight on use of various diagnostic imaging techniques and ECG in common conditions encountered in day today practices. The national seminar on Contribution of Indian Philosophical system to Ayurveda was a scholarly exercised to view the philosophical theories in the light of modern scientific advancements Currently working on a project proposal based on Geriatric Care using Ayurvedic intervention.
